It’s in your head.

Invisible Disease

The most common thing I hear people say about mental illnesses is that it “is all in your head.” They say it as though we have the option to make it go away, change our mood and live “normally.” People think we manifest these illnesses, that they are not real illnesses. People assume that your emotions are something you have complete control over. You can make the choice when you wake up to be happy or grumpy. You can make the choice to be depressed or be enthusiastic about life. After all, “it’s all in your head.”ImageThey are right. It is in our head.

These are scans of brain activity. The dark red color signifies “excessive activity.”

Notice how much red is in the photo of the Bipolar brain.

No wonder our thoughts are all over the place and we struggle to slow them down.
